Dr. Kwabena Duffuor

Political party money has long been regarded by some Ghanaians as the primary source of corruption. People support political parties with the hope that if that party achieves power, they will be rewarded. Because they do not want to lose the funding they receive from specific people, the party's hands are sometimes bound, and they may be obliged to condone their wrongdoings. That has been our country's nightmare.

Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a former finance minister in the cabinet of former President John Mahama, has chosen to create the "Ahotor project," which would assist build companies in each of the 275 constituencies to help finance party operations at that levels. These enterprises will assist produce revenue for the party at the constituency level.

Some party members believe he is doing so to prepare for a run for the party's flag bearer position, although he has categorically rejected this. He reminded them that he has previously supported the party and that this will not change. Even if he does decide to run, he has every right to do so.

Many political experts believe he will lead the party in the run-up to the 2024 elections. But can he defy the odds and defeat John Mahama in the primaries? It's only a matter of time.

Yesterday, the Ahotor project was launched at the party headquarters in Accra.
